Matthew H. Ammerman, Attorney
For 26 years Matthew has concentrated on the defense of maritime employers and insurance carriers, as well as the resolution of insurance coverage disputes. He is a 1997 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law. He received his bachelor’s degree cum laude in 1993 from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
Licensed in Texas, he investigates and defends maritime claims across the country—state court, federal court, and before federal administrative law judges. He works with local counsel in liability cases outside of Texas when necessary. Representative accomplishments include:
- Won dismissal of seaman’s lawsuit brought in subrogation and defended win on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
- Defended contractor against lawsuit by spouse of worker killed offshore and operator’s cross-claim for contractual indemnity.
- Represented insurer as lead counsel in defense of maritime first-party insurance claim resolved within weeks of filing.
Matthew is a member of the University of Texas Admiralty and Maritime Law Seminar Planning Committee, Maritime Law Association, and Houston Bar Association. Matthew participates in the Houston Bar Association’s Legal Line volunteer program.
He is married to Amy, and they have three children. When not practicing law, he can be found ranching in Central Texas or chasing his children.
